Ein
neues Buch, eine neue Lesereise. 12. bis 15. September, vier Städte in
vier Tagen. München, Bonn, Hamburg, Berlin. Da Diana und ich dieselbe
Vorliebe für Berge teilen und es nur eine Stunde südlich von München
eine Menge davon gibt, hat Diana so getan, als ob das Wort “Jet Lag” für
sie nicht existiert, wir sind beide einen Tag eher nach München gereist
– und haben den nächsten Zug nach Garmisch genommen, wo die Alpen so
richtig anfangen. Bei unserer Ankunft hat es gewittert, darum haben wir
unsere Pläne aufgegeben, mit der Seilbahn auf den Eckbauer zu fahren und
nach unten zu wandern. Stattdessen haben wir einen netten Spaziergang
durch die Hügel gemacht ...

So it
was that time again: Another book, another tour. September 12 to 15, four
cities in four days. Munich, Bonn, Hamburg, Berlin. Since Diana and I
share a fondness for mountains, and there are quite a bunch of nice ones
just an hour south of Munich, so Diana pretended not to know the meaning
of “jet lag”, we both arrived in Munich a day early – and took the
next train down to Garmisch Partenkirchen, where the Alps begin in earnest.
We arrived in a thunderstorm and abandoned all plans to take the cable car
up the Eckbauer and walk back down. Instead, we took a nice stroll into
the foothills...

Jörg extra für diese Gelegenheit entworfen haben, diesmal mit dem
deutschen Buchcover.

Metropol ist ein Kino, das 1928 gebaut worden ist und Anfang der
1990er in seiner ganzen Blattgoldpracht restauriert wurde. Über 600 Zuhörer
haben Diana dort gesehen – bis jetzt unser absoluter Rekord!

Ich
fahre regelmäßig über eine Autobahnbrücke, auf der ein Schild das Neanderthal
ausweist. Es ist nur eine halbe Autostunde von zu Hause, aber natürlich
habe ich niemals Zeit, von der Autobahn abzufahren und einen genaueren
Blick darauf zu werfen. Dianas Besuch kam mir wie die Gelegenheit vor, das
zu ändern. Sie war sofort begeistert von der Idee, als ich ihr den
Vorschlag gemacht habe. Ich konnte ja nicht ahnen, dass sie hier auf
Buchideen kommen würde. Und so haben wir einen faszinierenden Nachmittag
an einem Ort verbracht ...

regularly cross a highway bridge marking a place called “Neanderthal”,
just half an hour (by car) from home, but of course I never have the time
to leave the highway and take a look at the place itself. Diana's visit
seemed an ideal occasion to change this. She was at once enthusiastic to
go when I made the suggestion. Little did I know that we'd be giving her
Book Ideas. So we spent a fascinating afternoon at a place ... |

Und
das war's. Diesmal hat meine Tochter Franca noch darum gebeten,
zusammen mit ihre Patentante fotografiert zu werden, bevor es Zeit war,
sich zu verabschieden. Was für eine überwältigende Woche. Vielen Dank
an alle, die dazu beigetragen haben. Ich hoffe, wir haben das nicht zum
letzten Mal gemacht!

taken together with her godmother before it was time to say goodbye again.
